Reconfiguring Precious Metal Scrap

Based in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, Abington Reldan Metals, LLC, refines precious metal scrap such as manufacturing process materials, aerospace and military scrap, plating waste, lab materials, dental production materials, post-consumer electronic waste, and scrap from jewelry. Using environmental and sustainable practices, Abington Reldan Metals, LLC, recovers metals through a multi-step refining process.

Thermal processing is the process of converting scrap metals into ash. The process begins with taking metal scrap that is mixed with inorganics and placing them into a furnace. Once the metal has been turned to ash, they are moved to a melting area.

This material is then placed in a crucible, where it is heated in an induction oven or a gas-fired furnace. Next, the product of the heating process is mixed with borax or soda ash to form what is termed a slag. The slag will draw out the impurities, leaving purified metallic slurry that is poured into bars. With ceramic ash or scrap that has been ashed, the material is pulverized and reduced to dust. Screening and blending generates material that is the same. The two materials that emerge are oversize and sweep (dust).
